Nothing is today introducing its new Headphone (1) Pro over-ear headphones which deliver hardware improvements, better ANC, and deeper control over how you can tune the final output.
Following up on last year’s Nothing Headphone (1), the new Pro model brings upgrades across the board. That includes the physical hardware, which is a tiny bit lighter at 327g, while also getting softer ear cups, a wider headband, and thicker padding throughout. The design is also updated with a cleaner look and subtler accents, as well as glass in place of the previous plastic portions.
The biggest upgrades here are the ones that power the audio, though.
Nothing Headphone (1) Pro gets a triple-driver design that provides not only better audio quality, but far more control and flexibility throughout the tuning. In the Nothing X app you get a more advanced custom EQ interface with the option to independently adjust the main drivers and the third “precision driver.” You can get into the weeds of every little detail of the audio here, and it’s far more advanced even compared to the rest of Nothing’s audio gear.
Nothing built out the audio experience here with the help of Metropolis Studios, and Headphone (1) Pro also offers a physical switch to let you quickly jump to a “Flat” EQ for a completely neutral sound profile. There are also several presets for Spatial Audio that simulate listening locations such as “Live House,” “Concert Hall,” and more, with head tracking optional.
Active Noise Cancellation is also boosted here, hitting 46 dB, up from the 42 dB on Headphone (1). Nothing says this is through a 10-mic system and a stronger sound seal from the new earcups.
Like on Headphone (1), Pro supports lossless audio over USB-C while supporting Hi-Res wireless playback as well. You also still get the same plethora of physical controls across the side including the paddle and wheel.
I’ve been using Nothing Headphone (1) Pro for a few days and, while it’s too early to make a full verdict, there are meaningful improvements throughout, including the much more comfortable hardware. The sheer number of options around tuning the sound quality borders on overwhelming, so I’m still figuring out exactly how I like to listen.
